  • Dangerous Speech

  • Data

    Information, facts, or statistics collected and analyzed contributing to knowledge and decision-making. Accurate and timely data collection helps understand trends, assess public health outcomes, and informs policy and intervention strategies.

  • Deaf

    Refers to a significant hearing impairment or loss, impacting an individual's ability to perceive audible sound. Deaf individuals often use sign language or assistive technologies to communicate.

  • Democracy

    A system of government where power is vested in the hands of the people, typically through elected representatives. In a democratic society, citizens have the right to participate in decision-making processes and influence policies that impact their lives.

  • Diaphragm

    A dome-shaped muscle located beneath the lungs, separating the chest cavity from the abdominal cavity. The primary muscle responsible for breathing, the diaphragm contracts and flattens during inhalation, allowing the lungs to expand and fill with air.

  • Digestive System

    A network of organs including the stomach, liver, pancreas, gall bladder, small intestines, colon, rectum, and anus. The digestive system is responsible for processing food, extracting nutrients, and eliminating waste.

  • Disability

    Refers to a physical, sensory, cognitive, or developmental impairment that may limit an individual's ability to engage in certain activities or interact with their environment. Creating environments that consider the needs of individuals with disabilities contributes to a more inclusive and equitable society.

  • Disasters

    Catastrophic events resulting in significant harm (e.g., physical and economic), destruction, and disruption to communities. They often follow natural hazards but can also be caused by human activities. Disaster preparedness and response efforts aim to minimize the impact and aid recovery.

  • Disaster Safety Plans

    Guides to stay safe during emergencies like storms or accidents. They specify where to go, whom to contact, and what to have on hand in case of a crisis.

  • Disease

    A deviation from normal health or functioning, often characterized by specific symptoms and physiological abnormalities. Diseases can be infectious or non-infectious and may affect one or more organs or systems in the body.

  • Disinformation

    The intentional spread of false or misleading information with the purpose of deceiving and manipulating public opinion.

  • Drought

    A prolonged period of abnormally low precipitation, leading to water scarcity. Drought conditions impact agriculture, water supplies, and ecosystems, posing risks to both human and environmental health. Water conservation measures, sustainable practices, and proactive planning help mitigate the impact of drought on communities and ecosystems.

  • Drowning

    A process where a person experiences difficulty breathing due to being submerged in or covered by water or another liquid. Drowning can result in serious injury, lack of oxygen, or death if the airway is not cleared quickly. Immediate rescue and medical attention are required to prevent lasting harm or fatality.

  • Duodenum

    The first part of the small intestine, located just after the stomach. It plays a key role in digestion by receiving food from the stomach and mixing it with digestive juices from the pancreas and bile from the liver to help break down fats, proteins, and carbohydrates so the nutrients can be absorbed in the rest of the small intestine.
